Leh the erstwhile capital of the kingdom of Ladakh is now a dream destination of many and the Mecca of adventure enthusiasts! Leh, one of the coldest deserts in the world is located at a distance of 434 Kms from Srinagar and 474 Kms from Manali. Leh – is the joint capital and largest town of the union territory of Ladakh in India. Leh, located in the Leh district, was also the historical capital of the Kingdom of Ladakh. Ladakh is a high altitude place in trans Himalayas, and when you make a trip to Ladakh, Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is always on the cards. The majority of people suffer from AMS symptoms knowingly or unknowingly, some mild and few sever. It is biology; one cannot defeat or trick it if you are not following the basics of acclimatization, that is to give time and allow your body to adapt to change in altitude.
Generally, people can go up to 8000 feet without much problems with mountain sickness. As you start to increase altitude, the barometric pressure starts to decrease, which reduces the Oxygen intake per breath. Hence, people start to suffer from AMS as the body does not adapt to the change in high altitude.
Arrive at Leh airport in the afternoon. Meet our local representative and get transferred to your pre-booked hotel. Let your body take complete rest to acclimatization to the high altitude of Leh (11,500 ft / 3500 meters). Overnight at respective hotel.
After breakfast this morning, board your vehicle to visit few famous sightseeing places of Leh. Visit Sangam point (confluence of Indus & Zanskar Rivers), Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Kali Mata (Temple of Guardians in Spituk monastery) & Hall of Fame. Evening Explore local market. Overnight at the respective hotel.
After early breakfast, this morning, check out and drive to Nubra Valley (115 km approx). Today, we will drive through Khardung La which is claimed to be the highest motorable road in the world (Altitude of 18,380 ft). The pass offers amazing views of the valley and the roads winding up the mountain. The pristine air, scenic vistas and the feeling of being on top of the world have made Khardung La a popular tourist attraction. Upon arrival at Nubra Valley, Check into your pre-booked accommodation. Overnight at Nubra Valley.
After Leisurely breakfast vist Turtuk (Turtuk was opened to tourists in 2009). The village offers views of Beautiful Valley, part of the Shyok Valley. Though a Muslim village, there are a few gompas located on the plateau above the Shyok River and there is an old royal house to see in the village. Turtuk is one of the few places in India where one can witness Balti culture, and one can find a few homestays and guest houses in the village. It is the last major village where tourist activity is allowed before the Line of Control. Overnight at Nubra Valley.
After breakfast this morning, check out from your hotel as we drive you to Pangong lake, 3 idiots movie fame (160 kms). Enroute visit to Diskit monastery and have the wonderful view of Nubra valley. Later drive to Pangong lake via Shayok .Enjoy the turquoise color panoramic lake and the magnificent mountains and landscapes which will leave you awestruck. Spent your afternoon enjoy the beauty of Pangong lake. Overnight at Pangong Lake.
We shall be waking up early today to witness one of the most beautiful sunrise in India on this magnificent Lake. Later enjoy your breakfast and bid goodbye to this mesmerizing place. Check out and board your vehicle to drive back to Leh via Chang La. Enroute, Visit Thiksey Gompa & rancho school leh ( Closed by 4.00 Pm ) It is a twelve-story complex and houses many items of Buddhist art such as Stupas, statues, Thangkas, wall paintings and swords. Later in the evening reach Leh and check into your hotel. Overnight at Leh.
After breakfast today we cover the following places : Shey – Rencho School – Thiksey – Hemis – Stok Palace. Overnight at the respective hotel.
After breakfast, this morning, check out from your hotel and bid a final goodbye to this beautiful destination. Board your vehicle and drive back to the airport for your flight back to home.
